Ecuadorian National Assembly reviews security in Chimborazo and surveillance irregularities

The National Assembly's Commission on Sovereignty, Integration, and Integral Security met in Riobamba to address public safety and criminality in the Chimborazo province. During the session, local authorities, including the governor and representatives from the National Police, presented current security measures, results, and future strategies to combat crime and improve institutional response.

In a related oversight action, the Commission approved a report identifying irregularities in the video surveillance systems managed by Segura EP, the municipal public company for risk management and security in Guayaquil. The report highlights unauthorized access and a lack of documentation regarding the installation of a monitoring station, or ‘mirror room,’ at the Guayaquil Municipal Palace.

Legislators found that certain profiles had extensive capabilities to view real-time images and manage recordings without sufficient authorization or traceability. The report was approved with seven votes, supported by Assembly member Andrés Castillo, while facing opposition from members of the Revolución Ciudadana and Pachakutik benches.
