Ecuadorian officials review legality of FEF presidency re-election
The Ecuadorian Ministry of Sport is conducting a legal review regarding the re-election of Francisco Egas as president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF). While Egas has been re-elected, his registration is under scrutiny because the Sports Law prohibits a third consecutive term. Egas has held the position since 2019 and has already served one re-election period.
Roberto Ibáñez, the Vice Minister of Sport, stated that the legal team is performing a deep analysis to determine if this constitutes a prohibited third term. Ibáñez noted that the FEF argues that FIFA and CONMEBOL have their own specific regulations, but the ministry aims to ensure all actions adhere to Ecuadorian law.
Separately, members of the Ecuadorian national team coaching staff and FEF officials met with Guayaquil City FC leadership, including president Christian Zamora and coach Pool Gavilánez. The meeting focused on dialogue regarding the growth and future development of football within the country.
