Ecuadorian social groups call for October protests amid regional labor unrest

In Ecuador, several major social and labor organizations, including the Frente Unitario de Trabajadores (FUT) and the Unión Nacional de Educadores (UNE), have called for a national mobilization on October 8, 2026. The protests target the administration of President Daniel Noboa, citing concerns over public health, security, labor rights, and the management of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS). Protesters also intend to defend natural resources, specifically the Sacha oil field, and criticize the government's handling of the electricity deficit.

In Argentina, separate labor and professional conflicts are unfolding. In Formosa, the Asociación Judicial has called for an extraordinary assembly following a partial strike over wage disputes and disagreements with the Superior Tribunal de Justicia regarding salary deductions. In Río Grande, the Colegio Público de Abogados has expressed support for its president amid criticism from judicial unions, while the Colegio de Escribanos in La Rioja faces internal tension as over 85% of professionals oppose mandatory contributions to a notary pension fund.
