Security operations and crime crackdowns reported in Ecuador and Argentina
Security and law enforcement agencies in South America have reported several significant incidents. In Ecuador, a week-long curfew in four provinces has resulted in 901 arrests and the seizure of six tons of drugs. In Quito, the Ecuadorian Army dismantled a major counterfeit operation, seizing approximately one million labels, 6,000 bottles of adulterated liquor, and a clandestine distillery. Additionally, police in Ambato closed several businesses near universities for selling illicit alcohol, while authorities in Sucumbíos apprehended two individuals following a pursuit involving a firearm.
Traffic disruptions also occurred in Quito due to multiple accidents on the Simón Bolívar Avenue, involving buses and light vehicles, though no injuries were reported. Data from 2025 highlights that this avenue remains a high-mortality zone for traffic accidents in the city.
In Argentina, authorities in La Cruz were mobilized after the discovery of three hand grenades inside a private residence. The Corrientes Police Explosives Brigade was called to neutralize the devices, which were temporarily secured by firefighters.
