Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa loses third child
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa and First Lady Lavinia Valbonesi have suffered the loss of their third child, Stefano Noboa Valbonesi. Government Minister Nataly Morillo confirmed the news, stating that Valbonesi underwent an emergency medical intervention due to complications during her pregnancy, but the baby unfortunately passed away.
In response to the loss, the Ecuadorian government has declared a period of institutional mourning. The flag at the Palacio de Carondelet, the seat of the presidency in Quito, will fly at half-mast for three days. Various government officials, including ministers and the President of the National Assembly, have expressed their condolences and solidarity with the presidential family.
International figures and regional leaders have also offered support. Condolences were extended by officials from the United States and former Colombian President Iván Duque. The presidential family's two older children, Álvaro and Furio, were born in 2022 and 2024, respectively.
