Ecuadorian prosecutors charge four in human trafficking case
Ecuadorian prosecutors have filed charges against four individuals allegedly linked to the “Los Choneros” criminal group for human trafficking for sexual exploitation. The investigation follows the rescue of a 16-year-old victim.
Evidence presented includes medical-legal examinations, psychological reports, and a critical route report from a shelter. Authorities allege the group used butterfly tattoos as a mechanism to control victims. During raids in El Carmen and Bahía de Caráquez, several suspects were detained, including a tattoo artist.
A judge has ordered preventive prison for three of the suspects, while a fourth was granted periodic appearances and a travel ban. The fiscal instruction period is set for ninety days.
