Ecuador's Atahualpa Olympic Stadium façade renovation moves forward with $268k state contract

President Daniel Noboa announced an agreement to build a new Atahualpa Olympic Stadium, but the Concentración Deportiva de Pichincha (CDP) is instead preparing to rehabilitate the stadium’s façade. The work was awarded on 20 July 2026 through the National Public Procurement Service (Sercop) for $268,551.72, funded from the state budget.

The contract follows a 2026 budget amendment that created a line for “rehabilitation and maintenance of sports infrastructure.” Earlier, a plaza was inaugurated on the façade in November 2025 but was later removed as new works began. The CDP has been under the vice‑ministry of sport since a dispute with the Quito municipality in 2025, and previous promises of a new stadium have not materialised.
