Ecuador’s Health Ministry intensifies dengue control in La Maná and Pangua

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) in Ecuador has stepped up dengue‑prevention measures in the cantons of La Maná and Pangua. Activities include the removal of mosquito‑breeding sites, indoor fumigation of 882 homes, outdoor fumigation of 1 688 city blocks and destruction of 672 larval deposits. In total, 5 005 houses were inspected and community clean‑up efforts were organized with inter‑institutional brigades, health teams and family counseling. Technical and educational interventions reached 90 % of prioritized schools, and MSP officials urged residents to seek immediate medical care for fever, severe headache, eye pain, muscle or joint aches, nausea, vomiting or skin rashes, stressing that self‑medication should be avoided.

The campaign prioritizes parishes with active dengue cases or favorable ecological conditions, focusing on El Carmen, El Triunfo and La Matriz in La Maná and Guapara, Moraspungo and El Corazón in Pangua. Authorities emphasized the mantra “No breeding sites, no mosquitoes; no mosquitoes, no dengue.”
