Ecuador's LigaPro resumes, national team eyes World Cup 2030

Ecuador's top‑flight football league, LigaPro, will restart on 3 July after a pause for the 2026 World Cup, which saw the national side eliminated in the round of 16 and marked the end of Sebastián Beccacece's tenure as coach. Players dispersed for vacations and pre‑season training: Willian Pacho returns to PSG on 25 July, Gonzalo Plata prepares a friendly with River Plate before resuming with Flamengo, and Moisés Caicedo and Piero Hincapié train with Chelsea ahead of a July 28 friendly in Australia.

The domestic clubs are gearing up for the revived competition, with Independiente del Valle already back in action and other teams adjusting tactics during the break. Meanwhile the Ecuadorian Football Federation is planning its next coaching appointment, expecting to announce a shortlist in August as the national team begins its qualification campaign toward the 2030 World Cup.
