Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew celebrates 65 years of ordination in Imbros

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew celebrated the 65th anniversary of his ordination to the diaconate in his birthplace, the island of Imbros. The commemorative events took place on August 13, 2026, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Panagia.

The religious services were attended by high-ranking clergy, including the Primate of the Church of Alexandria, Pope Theodore, and the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës, and all Albania, Archbishop Ioannis. Other participating hierarchs included Metropolitans from Chalkidona, Philadelphia, Myron, and Guinea.

During the celebrations, the Patriarch met with the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou, Archimandrite Bartholomaios, and shared personal memories of his childhood and youth on the island. The event served as a significant gathering for the Orthodox community, marking the transition from his initial ordination in 1961 to his current leadership of the Ecumenical Throne.
