Ed Harris says he was misled about his role in “Dutton Ranch” and considered quitting

Oscar‑nominated actor Ed Harris told Variety that he was promised a major part in the Yellowstone spin‑off Dutton Ranch, being billed as one of the four main characters. During filming he felt his veteran veterinarian character Everett McKinney was underused and inconsequential, prompting him to tell his representatives “Get me the f‑‑‑ out of here.”

Harris said a scene in which his character sings in a bar was cut from the episode, which he described as “enough reason to say I’m voiding my contract.” Despite his frustration, he later called the series “pretty good” and acknowledged that Everett appears “relatively important to the story.”

The show has been renewed for a second season. Producers have assured Harris that his character will have “a little bit more to do,” and a new showrunner has been appointed. Harris remains under contract for two seasons and will return for Season 2 with an expanded role.
