Ed Martin to depart Trump administration
President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Ed Martin is departing his position within the administration. Martin, a prominent Trump ally and “Stop the Steal” advocate, most recently served as the administration’s pardon attorney.
During his tenure at the Department of Justice, Martin held several senior roles, including serving as the interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia and leading the “Weaponization Working Group” under Attorney General Pam Bondi. His time in office was marked by significant controversy, including his advocacy for individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot and the dismissal of over a dozen probationary federal prosecutors who had investigated the attack.
Trump stated that Martin is leaving to “fight Legal Battles for the upcoming Midterm Election, and the Presidential Election of 2028.” His departure comes as Attorney General Todd Blanche takes more prominent leadership within the Department of Justice.
