Ed Motta and Varanda release new musical projects

Brazilian musicians Ed Motta and the band Varanda have released new musical projects.

Ed Motta has released 'Toc-Toc', his first album in Portuguese since 2013. Moving away from the cinematic English narratives of his previous work, the artist draws inspiration from 1980s American electrofunk, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder. Motta noted that the shift to Portuguese aims to better communicate with his original audience. He also commented on the democratic nature of social media and expressed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence.

The Minas Gerais-based band Varanda has released their second album, titled ‘Às vezes um sonho…’. The record expands their pop sound by incorporating elements of slowcore, post-punk, and French pop. The album features sophisticated arrangements and includes the track ‘Sereno’, which features vocals by Fernanda Takai.
