Macklemore announces Free Palestine Tour following Ed Sheeran fallout
American rapper Macklemore has announced a new concert series titled the ‘Free Palestine Tour’ following his controversial removal from Ed Sheeran’s ‘Loop Tour’ in the United States. The dismissal occurred after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian statements and performed the song ‘Hind’s Hall’ during shows at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Reports indicate that venue owners, including Robert Kraft, pressured Sheeran to remove the rapper from the lineup.
The new tour will feature initial performances in Europe, with scheduled dates in Dublin on October 26, Paris on October 29, and London on October 30. Macklemore stated that all proceeds from the tour will be donated to organizations providing humanitarian, medical, and educational aid to Palestinians, including Anera, Medical Aid for Palestinians, and UNRWA USA.
The fallout from the incident saw several other artists, such as Finneas and Lukas Graham, withdraw from Sheeran’s tour in solidarity with Macklemore. Macklemore criticized the influence of the ‘billionaire class’ in attempting to censor political voices on stage, asserting that artists must use their platforms for more than just entertainment.
