Eda Savcıgil sets two records in Catalina Channel swim

Turkish ultramarathon swimmer Eda Savcıgil has completed the 32-kilometer Catalina Channel swim in 10 hours and 27 minutes, setting two distinct records. The 18-year-old athlete, from Izmir, achieved the title of the fastest female swimmer to complete the course and the youngest Turkish athlete to finish the segment.

The swim, which serves as the first leg of her Ocean Seven challenge, began on the night of October 1 and concluded on the morning of October 2. Savcıgil was supported by a team including coaches Egor Tropenano and Bengisu Avcı, as well as her father, Ayhan Savcıgil.

This achievement follows Savcıgil’s previous international successes, including a bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the Ice Swimming World Championships in Finland and a championship win in the Vesuvius segment of the Capri-Napoli race in Italy. Her next planned objective is the Molokai Channel in Hawaii, a 42-kilometer route considered one of the most difficult open-water swims in the world.
