EDAVITAS25 project launches to study vineyard soil fertility

The EDAVITAS25 research and development project has launched to evaluate the biological fertility of vineyard soils. With a budget exceeding 817,000 euros, the initiative is co-financed by CDTI Innovation using European Union FEDER funds.

The project aims to create a practical, scientifically validated database by developing new functional soil health indices that integrate biological, physical, and chemical parameters. Key indicators to be studied include active carbon, protein index, microbial respiration, and the C/N ratio.

Participants include Bodega Cuatro Rayas, representing the Rueda Denomination of Origin, the microbiological company Lallemand Bio, and the Institute for Research on Vine and Wine at the University of León. Over a 36-month period, the project seeks to address climate change impacts and traditional management limitations by promoting regenerative practices and optimizing the use of organic-calcic amendments and biostimulants to improve wine quality, particularly for the Verdejo variety.
