Eddie Hearn discusses Devin Haney and Liam Paro unification talks

Promoter Eddie Hearn has expressed skepticism regarding the negotiations for a welterweight unification bout between WBO champion Devin Haney and IBF champion Liam Paro. Hearn views Haney as a significant favorite in the matchup, noting that Paro lacks the power to hurt Haney and may struggle to outbox him. Consequently, Hearn suggests Paro should demand an “absolute fortune” to offset the risk of losing his title.

Hearn also raised concerns that Jack Catterall’s name may have been used as leverage to pressure Paro into accepting lower financial terms. While Matchroom has indicated readiness to proceed with the Paro fight, Catterall remains a viable alternative for Haney.

Separately, former boxer Tony Harrison criticized the current state of the sport, suggesting that financial demands often prevent high-level competition. Harrison cited the failed negotiations between Haney and Keyshawn Davis as an example of fighters prioritizing money over the opportunity to compete against elite opponents.
