Eddie Howe emerges as Manchester United managerial candidate

Eddie Howe has reportedly emerged as a leading contender for the Manchester United managerial position. The club is considering alternatives following a difficult start to the 2026-27 season under current manager Michael Carrick, who faces pressure after several disappointing results, including a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

Howe, the 48-year-old English manager, built his reputation through successful tenures at Bournemouth and Newcastle United. At Bournemouth, he led the club from League Two through successive promotions to the Premier League. During his time at Newcastle, which began in November 2021, he transformed the team following a Saudi-backed takeover, guiding them to Champions League qualification and winning the EFL Cup in 2025.

According to reports, Manchester United hierarchy is also considering former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann as a potential successor to Carrick.
