Eddie Howe leaves Newcastle United; linked to England job

Eddie Howe has departed from his role as manager of Newcastle United, a move that came as a surprise during the pre-season. Newcastle United sporting director Ross Wilson stated that while the club did not expect the timing of the exit, they had been preparing for a managerial change for approximately nine months. Wilson noted that Howe decided to step down in July to take a break, and the club utilized a contingency plan to appoint Matthias Jaissle as his successor.

Jaissle, who joined from Al-Ahli, was selected to build upon the high-pressing style established during Howe's nearly five-year tenure. Howe is credited with ending the club's 70-year wait for a domestic trophy and leading them into the Champions League.

Following his exit, Howe has been linked to the position of England national team manager. Reports suggest his potential appointment comes amid uncertainty regarding Thomas Tuchel's future following the team's performance in the 2026 World Cup.
