Eddie Jones uses migrating geese analogy to improve Japan rugby support play

Japan rugby head coach Eddie Jones has introduced an unconventional training method involving videos of migrating geese to improve his team’s support play. Following a narrow 35-32 defeat to Australia in Osaka, Jones identified a lack of synchronization among support runners as a critical flaw.

Jones explained the analogy by stating that the ball carrier acts as the lead goose in a flock, with all other players responsible for mirroring the leader's movements with absolute discipline. This approach aims to ensure support players respond immediately and effectively to the ball carrier’s actions.

In preparation for the second Test in Townsville, Jones has made five changes to the starting lineup. Notable selections include university student Yoshitaka Yazaki on the wing and Shunsuke Uenobo at center. The coach also expressed confidence in fly-half Ryunosuke Ito, noting his continued development following a strong performance in his recent international appearances.
