Honda aims to return Fernando Alonso to F1 title contention
Honda, the power unit supplier for Aston Martin, has announced its ambition to return two-time Formula 1 World Champion Fernando Alonso to title contention. Honda's chief engineer, Shintaro Orihara, emphasized the manufacturer's commitment to leveraging Alonso's 20 years of technical experience to develop a more competitive package.
While Honda aims for championship success, Alonso's own future remains uncertain. The veteran driver is reportedly evaluating his options following dissatisfaction with the 2026 regulations. Negotiations regarding his contract extension with Aston Martin are reportedly underway, with reports suggesting Alonso may seek an annual salary increase from €30 million to €40 million.
Alonso has indicated that his decision to stay in Formula 1 will depend heavily on the competitiveness of the car. Meanwhile, Aston Martin continues to restructure its leadership, with technical partner Adrian Newey addressing rumors regarding potential personnel changes within the team's senior management.
