Eddie Murphy to star in Peacock drama ‘The Chairman’

Eddie Murphy The Chairman Matthew Weiner Peacock scripted drama

Eddie Murphy is set to star in ‘The Chairman’, a new scripted drama series currently in development for Peacock. The project marks a significant career milestone for Murphy, as it will be his first lead role in a live-action scripted television series. While Murphy has appeared on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and co-created animated series like ‘The PJs’, he has primarily focused on film and comedy specials.

The series is created by Matthew Weiner, the acclaimed showrunner behind ‘Mad Men’ and a writer/producer for ‘The Sopranos’. Weiner and Murphy will both serve as executive producers on the project.

‘The Chairman’ is being produced by Universal Television and 101 Studios. It represents the first production under the recent deal between 101 Studios and NBCUniversal. Specific plot details regarding the series have not yet been disclosed.
