Ede implements energy sharing as Gelderland faces EV charging rule inconsistencies

The municipality of Ede is implementing a local energy-sharing model to better utilize locally generated power. By sharing energy between different municipal buildings, the town aims to optimize electricity use based on when and where energy is produced, rather than focusing solely on annual consumption. This approach allows the municipality to use solar energy from one building to power another, setting their own prices and purchasing only what is necessary from the market or local cooperatives.

Meanwhile, in the province of Gelderland, inconsistent regulations regarding electric vehicle charging are creating challenges for residents. An investigation revealed that in 27 of the 51 Gelderland municipalities, charging an electric car via a cable across the sidewalk is prohibited. Where it is permitted, rules vary significantly; some towns allow thin cables or rubber mats, while others require expensive specialized cable ducts. The Association of Electric Riders is calling for uniform national policies to reduce consumer confusion and lower the barrier to transitioning to electric driving.
