Ede municipality announces plans for 1,000 new homes in Nieuw Maanen

The municipality of Ede has announced plans for the Nieuw Maanen area, which will provide opportunities for developers to construct approximately 1,000 homes. The project aims to transform the current area—primarily composed of offices, business premises, and a training center—into a green neighborhood that combines residential and professional spaces.

The development plan includes apartments, most of which will be a maximum of seven stories high, alongside one building reaching 23 stories. To maintain the area's environmental quality, existing mature trees will be preserved, and further greening initiatives are planned. Infrastructure improvements include a new bicycle bridge over Keesomstraat connecting to Hoogbouw Ede-Zuid.

Alderman Jan Pieter van der Schans stated that the project aims to provide suitable housing for youth and the elderly, groups that currently face difficulties finding appropriate homes. The municipality will soon begin consultations with local residents and entrepreneurs to incorporate their feedback into the spatial framework, which is expected to be completed by early 2027. The environmental plan is slated for finalization in 2028.
