Edeeste activates 50 MVA transformer at Los Minas substation in Santo Domingo Este

The Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (Edeeste) has put a new 50 MVA, 138 kV transformer into service at the Los Minas substation in Santo Domingo Este. The investment of about RD 174 million raises the substation’s installed capacity from 85 MVA to 135 MVA, providing greater operational reserve and reducing load on existing equipment.

The upgrade is expected to improve the stability and quality of electric supply for more than 40 neighbourhoods and commercial zones, including Alma Rosa, Villa Faro, El Rosal, and others. To integrate the transformer, Edeeste will conduct a scheduled four‑hour outage on selected circuits, temporarily affecting those areas while technical work such as load transfer and line adjustments is performed.
