EDEESTE advances major electric grid upgrades in Higüey, Dominican Republic

The Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (EDEESTE) announced that it is carrying out extensive modernization projects for the electric system in the municipality of Higüey, La Altagracia province. The investment exceeds RD$1,060 million and includes installing voltage regulators on circuit BENE01, segmenting local circuits, adding five kilometres of street lighting at the city entrance, and re‑ordering networks on circuit HI3803. Ongoing works comprise the new discharge circuit HI3804, now 84 % complete, converting networks to three‑phase on the Mata Chalupe branch, and building medium‑voltage lines for the Kaynoa Airpark and Hacienda La Cortina projects. The upgrades aim to improve power distribution, reduce overloads, and enhance service quality for thousands of customers. Scheduled power interruptions are planned to allow safe execution of these works, while loss‑reduction initiatives target irregular connections.

EDEESTE emphasised its commitment to continue investing in the region’s growth and to provide a more stable and reliable electricity supply for residents and productive sectors.
