Edeeste builds new La Caleta substation in the Dominican Republic
The Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (Edeeste) is constructing a new 40 MVA substation in La Caleta, Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. The project, funded with a total investment of RD$181.5 million, aims to replace the existing 23 MVA facility that has struggled with overloads during peak demand. Construction is 55 % complete and includes four additional distribution circuits, 36 new poles, 79 structures and about 5,867 metres of conductor. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to serve more than 84,310 customers, reducing interruptions and voltage fluctuations, especially during the summer peak season. Edeeste plans to finish the work by the end of June 2026.
