EDEEste launches investigation after client alleges contractor extortion

The Dominican electricity distributor Electricidad del Este (EDEEste) announced it has opened a thorough investigation following a customer’s claim that a contractor‑linked technician attempted to extort money. The company said it first learned of the allegation through social‑media posts, then contacted the client to hear her account and provide assistance while the probe proceeds.

EDEEste said its commercial department is also reviewing the client’s consumption and billing records to verify any irregularities. The utility reaffirmed its zero‑tolerance policy for unethical conduct and warned that any confirmed misconduct will result in legal and administrative measures. It urged the public to report similar incidents through official channels.
