Edeka implements AI-powered Knapp robots for meat distribution
German supermarket group Edeka is expanding the automated logistics capabilities at its Nordfrische distribution center in Lüttow-Valluhn. The facility, which supplies approximately 650 stores with 2,500 different meat and sausage products daily, has integrated two Pick-it-Easy robots from Knapp.
These AI-supported robots utilize advanced image processing and intelligent gripping technology to handle a diverse range of fresh products. Each robot is capable of performing approximately 450 picks per hour. Beyond picking, the systems manage barcode scanning and weight recording to improve process quality and reduce manual labor.
The automation allows for 24/7 operations, increasing supply chain resilience and relieving employees of physically demanding tasks. The facility processes up to 40,000 containers a day within an 86,000-square-foot system maintained at a constant temperature of +2°C.
