Edelap faces scrutiny following Tolosa substation fire and regional outages

Following a fire at the Tolosa substation, widespread power outages have affected thousands of residents in the La Plata region. In response, legislators from La Libertad Avanza have submitted requests for information to the provincial government and the Electricity Control Body (Oceba) to determine the causes of the fire and the measures being taken to restore service.

In the local City Council, PRO bloc president Nicolás Morzone has introduced an ordinance seeking to terminate Edelap’s service concession, citing municipal autonomy and the need for distributors that meet the standards of local residents.

Diego Rozengardt, president of Oceba, clarified that no prior inspections had been conducted at the Tolosa station before the explosion. He stated that the facility had not shown indicators that would trigger an alert or a specific audit, as Oceba typically intervenes based on service quality results and systemic problems rather than permanent monitoring of all transformer stations. The region, which includes La Plata, Berisso, Ensenada, Brandsen, Magdalena, and Punta Indio, has faced ongoing complaints regarding daily outages and voltage issues.
