Eden Gardens to host massive Mahalaya cultural event in Kolkata

Eden Gardens in Kolkata is scheduled to host a massive Mahalaya cultural program on October 10, 2026, to mark the beginning of Durga Puja festivities. Organized by the West Bengal government, the event is designed as a large-scale spectacle combining traditional Bengali customs with modern technology, including a 3,000-drone show, 3D projection mapping, laser effects, and fireworks.

Participation is expected to be significant, with approximately 10,000 dhakis and 1,000 women participating in the program. The event is projected to draw nearly 45,000 attendees, with live screenings planned at 35 locations across Kolkata.

There is conflicting information regarding the attendance of top political leaders. While some reports suggest Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah may skip the event, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has indicated that Amit Shah is expected to attend.
