Eden Prairie shooting leaves two wounded during homecoming game

A shooting occurred outside the Aerie Stadium at Eden Prairie High School on Friday night during a homecoming football game against Minnetonka. The incident, which took place shortly before 9 p.m., caused thousands of spectators to flee the stadium in panic following an evacuation announcement.

The Eden Prairie Police Department stated that the shooting is believed to be gang-related and likely stems from a conflict between local Somali immigrant gangs. Two victims, aged 17 and 18, were wounded in the parking lot. Both individuals were known to law enforcement but were not students at either high school. The 17-year-old remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the 18-year-old has been discharged.

In response to the event, Eden Prairie High School Principal Dr. Jaysen Anderson announced the cancellation of the scheduled homecoming dance, stating that holding the event less than 24 hours after such a trauma would feel “out of place.” The football game was eventually completed on Saturday morning, with Eden Prairie winning 20-14.
