Edesur Dominicana activates contingency plan for 2026 cyclone season

Edesur Dominicana, the main electricity distributor in the Dominican Republic, has activated its contingency plan for the 2026 cyclone season. The plan outlines preventive, operational and recovery actions to be taken before, during and after any meteorological event, aiming to avoid accidents, minimise damage to the distribution network and restore service quickly.

Key measures include the activation of emergency committees and work centres, communication protocols, strategic deployment of technical brigades and resources, safety procedures for staff and contractors, and inter‑institutional coordination. Service restoration will be prioritised for circuits feeding national security centres, hospitals, water plants, state institutions and official shelters. The plan covers urban, rural and coastal zones within Edesur’s concession, including areas prone to flooding and landslides. The Atlantic North, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico cyclone season runs from 1 June to 30 November.

The overall goal is to protect people and assets, reduce response times, limit impacts on the electric grid and ensure coordinated, efficient continuity of essential services.
