Edesur Dominicana explains factors behind electricity bill increases
Edesur Dominicana executives have identified several factors that may lead to increased electricity bills for customers. According to Billing Manager Darlenis Segura and Customer Service Manager Rosa Cuevas, common causes include damaged meters, internal electrical faults within homes, illegal connections by neighbors, or appliances that consume energy even when not in active use.
Segura noted that the most frequent cause of higher costs is increased consumption that pushes customers into higher tariff ranges. To address these concerns, Edesur has implemented specialized personnel and a triage system in its commercial offices to provide personalized assistance. A new information center has also been established at the Rómulo Betancourt commercial office, offering extended hours from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays.
Customers are encouraged to monitor their meters regularly and familiarize themselves with their consumption patterns. If a billing error is confirmed after an investigation, the distributor applies credits to the account. For unresolved disputes, customers may escalate their claims to the Office of Protection of Electricity Service Users (Protecom).
