Edesur invests over RD$94 million to modernize electric grid in Bahoruco, Dominican Republic

Edesur Dominicana will spend more than RD$94 million to upgrade medium‑voltage electricity networks in the Neiba area of Bahoruco province. The project includes installing 18.75 km of new distribution lines, 468 luminaires, 566 poles and 128 transformers, which will bring safe, stable service to 1,623 newly regularised customers in the Buenos Aires del Yeso, Vista al Lago and Los Cocos sectors. The works are part of the Programme for Polygon Recovery (PRP) aimed at reducing outages in communities that currently rely on makeshift connections such as trees or deteriorated poles. Edesur General Manager José Luis Actis said the upgrade will strengthen infrastructure and cut technical and commercial energy losses, while Neiba Mayor Yadel Suberví praised the initiative and urged residents to regularise their service and pay promptly to avoid further supply issues. The investment is expected to boost local economic activity, lower users’ costs by reducing reliance on generators, and improve overall power reliability in the region.
