Edgar Grospiron resigns as 2030 Winter Olympics president

Edgar Grospiron has resigned as president of the organizing committee for the 2030 French Alps Winter Olympics after 18 months in the role. While an official statement described the departure as a “deliberate, organised and fully assumed transition” intended to benefit the project’s governance, Grospiron cited “months of tension” as the reason for his exit.

The resignation follows a period of significant internal instability and logistical challenges within the committee. Grospiron’s departure follows the previous exits of CEO Cyril Linette, who cited “insurmountable disagreements” with Grospiron, as well as COO Anne Murac and communications director Arthur Richer.

Reports indicate that key stakeholders, including the French government and regional authorities, had reportedly communicated to the International Olympic Committee that trust in Grospiron had eroded. Despite these leadership changes and ongoing budget concerns, French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari stated that the bid continues to move forward and expressed confidence in the future of the Alpes project.
