Russia's United Russia wins elections as Poland faces credit downgrade

In Russia, the United Russia party, supported by Vladimir Putin, secured a significant victory in the three-day parliamentary elections. Preliminary results show the party holding approximately 57.86 percent of the vote, followed by the Communist Party at 13.84 percent and the Liberal Democratic Party at 8.90 percent. The European Union has criticized the voting process, stating it further erodes Russian democracy, and has signaled that new sanctions may be imposed, particularly targeting those involved in voting in occupied Ukrainian territories.

In Poland, Moody’s Ratings has downgraded the country’s sovereign credit rating to A3. This move comes as Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government faces scrutiny over its fiscal position. Despite plans to implement tax cuts and fuel subsidies to bolster reelection prospects for the 2027 elections, the downgrade highlights concerns regarding the government's ability to manage the budget deficit.
