Edgar Moury Fernandes, former federal deputy, dies at 82

Edgar Moury Fernandes Sobrinho, a former state and federal deputy from Pernambuco, has died at the age of 82. He passed away while receiving treatment for cancer in a health unit.

A lawyer and member of the MDB, Fernandes had a long political career that included serving four terms in the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco (Alepe) and two terms as a federal deputy. He was a key political ally of former governor Jarbas Vasconcelos, serving as the Secretary of the Civil House during Vasconcelos's administration. His political history also included participating in opposition movements during the military dictatorship to advocate for redemocratization.

The Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco issued a note expressing condolences to his family and friends. Pernambuco Governor Raquel Lyra also paid tribute to his public contributions to the state.
