Edgar Traboulsi opposes closure of Al-Akhtal Al-Saghir Secondary School

Lebanese MP Edgar Traboulsi has issued a strong condemnation of the Ministry of Education’s decision to close the Al-Akhtal Al-Saghir official secondary school in Jdeideh/Bouchrieh. The ministry plans to merge the institution with the Girls' Secondary School to repurpose the Al-Akhtal Al-Saghir building as a shelter for displaced persons.

Traboulsi described the move as a “flagrant assault” on an educational landmark established in 1967. He argued that the decision constitutes an illegal change in the property's usage, noting that the Municipality of Jdeideh contributes to the rent and insists on the school's continuity. He also criticized the Ministry for refusing to officially receive an objection letter from the municipality, calling the lack of transparency a violation of administrative standards.

The MP highlighted that the facility is well-equipped with laboratories, a library, and a solar energy system provided by a $60,000 French grant. He warned that ignoring the demands of the local community would lead to inevitable political and popular escalation to protect the school.
