EDGE Group signs defense contract with Morocco for precision munitions

The UAE-based EDGE Group has signed a contract with the Moroccan National Defense Administration to supply the Royal Moroccan Air Force with precision-guided weaponry. The agreement, announced during the Marrakech Airshow 2026, focuses on integrating advanced munitions into Morocco’s fleet of unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs).

The contract includes the supply of the ‘Desert Sting 16’ (DS-16), a lightweight guided glide weapon developed by Halcon, and ‘Thunder P-31’ precision-guided munitions. The DS-16 weighs approximately 23 kilograms with a range of up to 15 kilometers, while the Thunder P-31 system converts conventional MK-81 bombs into smart munitions with a range of up to 27 kilometers depending on launch altitude.

Both systems utilize a guidance method combining satellite-aided inertial navigation (GAINS) with a semi-active laser seeker option, capable of achieving accuracy within 3 meters. The deal includes technical and software modifications to ensure operational integration and long-term technical support, marking a significant step in the expanding defense partnership between the UAE and Morocco.
