Edgeconnex data center project faces delays in Norway
Erik Skjervagen, the mayor of Fyresdal, has expressed strong frustration regarding processing delays at the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE). The delays threaten one of Norway’s largest data center projects, led by the American company Edgeconnex.
Edgeconnex is constructing a massive data center in Fyresdal and has applied for 365 megawatts of power. To facilitate this, the company must build a new transformer station and high-voltage lines, but work cannot begin until necessary permits are granted. Despite an application for grid measures being submitted in December 2025, a case officer has yet to be assigned nearly a year later.
Mayor Skjervagen has sent a letter of concern to Energy Minister Terje Aasland, describing the NVE's responses as inadequate and the wait time as unacceptable. NVE has stated they are working on the case and intend to send it for consultation during October.
