Edi Rama announces new regulations for business inspections in Albania
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced a significant shift in how business inspections will be conducted. Following a meeting with Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj and General Inspector Dashnor Sula, Rama stated that the primary goal of inspections will move from punishment to guidance and compliance support.
Under the new approach, routine inspections will no longer occur without prior warning. Rama emphasized that fines should be treated as a last resort rather than a primary tool or a means of pressure against entrepreneurs. The objective is to help businesses correct violations and meet standards rather than simply identifying errors for the purpose of sanctioning.
To ensure transparency and prevent potential extortion or misconduct, Rama announced that inspectors will soon be required to wear uniforms and be equipped with intelligent body cameras. He also encouraged business owners to immediately report any unannounced routine inspections to the General Inspector.
