Edi Rama faces persistent nightly protests in Albania

Ongoing political unrest in Albania, characterized by the so-called ‘Flamingo Revolution,’ has seen nightly protests in Tirana for over 100 days. Demonstrators march toward the Prime Minister’s office to demand the resignation of Edi Rama, though the movement has not yet transformed into a massive uprising despite its persistence.

The protests were triggered in late May following incidents involving a private security company and are linked to tensions surrounding tourism development projects in Zvërnec and Sazan involving Jared Kushner. While some confrontations with police have led to arrests, most demonstrations remain peaceful.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has held office since 2013, has described the situation as a ‘test of confidence.’ He appears unyielding in his position to serve until the end of his mandate in 2029.
