Edi Rama confronted by protesters in New York City

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was confronted by protesters in New York City while attending the 81st UN General Assembly. A group of Albanian activists gathered near the location of the Albanian delegation's scheduled meetings and threw eggs toward the Prime Minister.

During the incident, protesters shouted slogans against Rama, calling him a “mafioso,” “thief,” and “criminal,” with some chanting, “Edi Rama, criminal, all of Albania hates you.” While eggs were thrown near him, video footage indicates they did not strike him.

Rama responded to the incident via social media, using sharp language to dismiss the protesters as “hysterical chickens.” He defended his administration's record, stating that he has raised the Albanian flag higher than ever before in the eyes of the world. He further asserted that his government has implemented institutional reforms to combat corruption and is successfully moving Albania toward European Union membership, noting that the EU and the United States increasingly value the country's progress in these areas.
