Edilson Takahara defends own labor lawsuit in Brazilian court
Edilson Takahara, a bricklayer, personally defended himself in a labor lawsuit before the 2nd Chamber of the TRT of the 11th Region. Utilizing the principle of 'jus postulandi,' which allows individuals to represent themselves in certain labor court matters, Takahara sought the recognition of an employment relationship with a condominium.
Takahara stated that he studied the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) to prepare his arguments, despite facing personal insecurity during the process. He argued that his work, which involved external building maintenance using ropes, was part of a structured team under engineering supervision, contradicting the condominium's claim that he was an autonomous worker.
Judge Sandro Nahmias Melo, the rapporteur for the case, praised the quality of the oral arguments. The judge remarked that the logic presented was better than many arguments provided by professional lawyers and suggested that Takahara might consider a career in law.
