Edin Džeko contract extension talks spark salary hike at Schalke 04

Schalke 04 is preparing for the upcoming Bundesliga season and has placed striker Edin Džeko at the centre of its squad planning. Club officials are negotiating a new one‑year contract that would raise his earnings from roughly €50,000 per month to about €1.5 million a year, signalling the importance of the 40‑year‑old forward to the team.

Sport director Frank Baumann said Džeko has indicated he can still imagine continuing his playing career physically and that the club hopes to retain his experience on and off the pitch. Džeko’s contribution after joining in the winter was decisive – six goals in eleven second‑division matches helped Schalke secure promotion.

The negotiations also intersect with Džeko’s commitment to the Bosnia‑Herzegovina national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which could influence the timing of any final agreement.
