Edin Džeko negotiates new contract with Schalke in Dubrovnik
Edin Džeko, 40, has been a free agent since early July and was on a break in Dubrovnik when Schalke’s sports director Frank Baumann travelled to meet him. The discussion focused on a possible continuation with the German club.
Schalke presented a contract with a base salary of roughly €900,000 per year, plus bonuses that could raise total earnings to about €1.3 million. The offer comes after Džeko’s six goals and three assists in the second half of last season helped the team regain promotion to the Bundesliga. The club, operating on a budget of around €40 million, wants to retain him.
Džeko said he needs additional time with his family before deciding, with a final answer expected by early August. Baumann warned that if a suitable alternative striker emerges, Schalke may withdraw the offer.
