Edin Dzeko extends contract with FC Schalke 04

Edin Dzeko has extended his contract with FC Schalke 04 for another year, marking his return to the Bundesliga at age 40. The veteran striker noted that while he is beginning to ‘feel his age,’ his longevity is the result of over a decade of intensive individual training and preventative strength work.

Dzeko revealed that contract negotiations with Schalke began shortly after the World Cup, with coach Miron Muslic initiating contact in early July. After joining Schalke from AC Fiorentina last winter, Dzeko played a significant role in the club's promotion, recording six goals and three assists in eleven matches.

Looking ahead to the new season, Dzeko expressed excitement about facing former teammates who have transitioned into leadership roles, such as Vincent Kompany, the current coach of FC Bayern München and his former captain at Manchester City. He also mentioned that his family is expected to join him in Germany within the coming weeks.
