Edin Dzeko faces club performance scrutiny and successful charity jersey auction
Edin Dzeko, the 40-year-old striker for FC Schalke 04, is facing scrutiny regarding his performance following a recent match against Mainz 05. During the game, Dzeko was substituted after 60 minutes due to a head wound. Observers noted his limited impact on the field, citing a lack of goal threat and difficulties in physical duels.
Schalke coach Miron Muslic defended the decision to start Dzeko, stating the team required a target man to replace the injured Moussa Sylla. Muslic noted that while other options like Hee Chan Hwang were available, they were not yet ready for the specific role required.
Separately, Dzeko’s jersey from his final appearance for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team was auctioned for approximately 48,700 euros (95,100 KM). The auction, organized by the humanitarian organization Pomozi.ba, saw intense bidding for the garment worn during his farewell match against Sweden. All proceeds will benefit the ‘Sportisti za život’ foundation, established by Dzeko and Mirza Teletovic to fund medical treatments for citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
