Edin Dzeko stays pivotal for Bosnia at World Cup despite injury doubts

Bosnia and Herzegovina coach Sergej Barbarez insists that striker Edin Džeko remains a world‑class player and a central figure for the national team at the World Cup, even though the 40‑year‑old is still recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in the playoff against Italy. Barbarez said, “He is still a world‑class player,” and highlighted Džeko’s influence both on the pitch and in the dressing‑room.

Džeko, who currently plays for Schalke 04, has missed training sessions and was a substitute for the opening 1‑1 draw with co‑host Canada. He expressed his affection for Switzerland, noting his frequent visits to Lucerne with his family and saying, “I love Switzerland and its mountains.” His fitness will be crucial ahead of Bosnia’s upcoming group matches against Switzerland and Qatar.
